Kanye has beautiful chart debut

Kanye West’s twisted fantasy came true — his brand new album debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian charts.

The Atlanta-born rapper’s fifth album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” shot to No. 1 on the album charts, selling a healthy 29,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.

The numbers surpassed the sales of his last disc “808s & Heartbreak,” which came in at No. 4 with sales of 26,000 copies in November of 2008.

Kanye also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 496,000 copies of “Twisted Fantasy” in the U.S., according to Billboard.com.

Back in Canada, Susan Boyle’s “The Gift” (19,000) rebounded three notches to land at No. 2, the “Glee Christmas Album” (18,000) was held in check at No. 3, and last week’s top dog in the land, Rihanna’s “Loud,” sank to No. 4.

Justin Bieber’s “My Worlds Acoustic” had a so-so debut coming in at No. 5, Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” remained at No. 6, and Bon Jovi’s “Greatest Hits” spiralled down five notches to No. 7.

Closing out the top 10 was Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday” at No. 8, the “MuchDance 2011” collection at No. 9, and Josh Groban’s “Illuminations” at No. 10.

In the U.S., Nicki Minaj placed second, followed by Susan Boyle in third, Taylor Swift in fourth, and Jackie Evancho’s “O Holy Night” in fifth.
