Dramatic “Dancing” catapults Kimmel while Kanye controversy gooses Macy’s parade

Thanks to the white-knuckle finish to the eleventh edition of ABC’s dance competition series “Dancing with the Stars,” in which Bristol was the improbably survivor, finishing second runner up on the show’s final night, Jimmy Kimmel bagged his biggest weekly audience ever for his ABC late night show.

More than 2 million people watched “Jimmy Kimmel Live” the week of Nov. 22. That includes the Tuesday broadcast, in which about 3 million people tuned in to see “DWTS” winner Jennifer Grey. That’s “JKL’s” third biggest audience ever.

Meanwhile, NBC boasted Friday that it’s Thanksgiving day broadcast of the 84th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade attracted an average of 22.1 million viewers, nipping at the heels of “DWTS” Monday (23.7 million viewers) and Tuesday (24.2 million) finales that week.

The parade – which enjoyed its own drama when rapper Kanye West, riding aboard a Big Apple float, was booed by parade goers — actually beat both those “DWTS” broadcasts among the 18-49 year olds for whom advertisers lust.

Grey’s win over Palin and Kyle Massey — the dance show’s other two finalists – attracted 5.3 percent of the country’s 18-49 year olds. But Macy’s parade, attracted 5.8 percent.
